HEIRLOOM MODERN, RIZZOLI BOOKS

Our book, Heirloom Modern, looks inside beautiful homes filled with objects that tell the stories of the people and families who dwell within.

This theme is particularly dear to us. Our mom had incredible taste and always drove us to have strong, independent aesthetic visions. She died a little over a decade ago. As both a conscious and subconscious memorial to her, we’ve decorated our shared loft in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, very much in her memory.

While all the spaces in the book are beautiful, the stories give the book – and these homes – their soul. That said, this isn’t a book about living in the past. It's about having an honest appreciation for the people and lives that came before us and what that means today. Truly modern thought takes the past into consideration. It's about incorporating the past into our lives to make the present more relevant and interesting. It also makes a gorgeous home.

Our mom taught us to dream big, but not forget where we came from. In our minds, that’s the best decorating advice anyone could give.

ROUGH LUXE DESIGN

We were thrilled to take part in Kahi Lee’s beautiful 2011 coffee table book, Rough Luxe Design: The New Love of Old, in which design rejects minimalism and extravagance and celebrates imperfection.
